Receiving
Today’s message comes from the Postcards from Spirit. It says:
“Dearest You,
Sometimes it is wonderful to give, but there are times you might find yourself overgiving. Now might be a good time to check in and see where you might be cutting off the flow of abundance. Let others give to you even if you are more comfortable being generous and being the giver, the healer, the rescuer. In the art of living, we sometimes overlook an important skill: receiving gracefully and with gratitude, without diminishing yourself or trying to deny vulnerability or bringing an agenda of equality to it. Receiving is hard for some people - maybe you? You do not need a ‘this for that’ in your exchange with others. You are doing good in the world, let the world give back and support you. Then you can give up the old stories that have you convinced you have to do everything alone with no help. Let your well be filled.
We all love you so, so much . . . “
As we discussed in yesterday’s post, we are being asked to find what nurtures us and to allow ourselves that support so that we may show up more fully as our authentic, aligned selves in the world. When we are in alignment with the higher aspects of self, we recognize that receiving is part of the natural flow of energy.
Allowing ourselves to receive not only allows more abundance to flow to us, it allows us to give even more than we would otherwise be able. We are able to give more because our wells are full, we are resourced, and we are taking care of self.
Yet, it is challenging for so many of us to receive. We have many stories about what receiving means, and for many of us receiving in the past has been followed by vulnerability, danger and/or punishment.
Take some time today to consider and observe how it feels to receive. How do you react to being given a gift, a compliment, a helping hand? What story underlies this reaction? Do you believe you are deserving or enough? Whose story is it - is it yours, or someone else’s? If it is not your story, are you willing to return it to the person to whom it belongs? Are you willing to release resistance and limiting beliefs and write a new story?
This may take some time to feel more comfortable. We are encouraged to practice. Allow it to be a process and bring it into your conscious awareness.
As we work through old habits and energetics around giving and receiving and allow ourselves to recognize that we are safe, we allow ourselves to step into greater partnership with the Universe. We also allow ourselves to step into greater community and relationship with others. We allow ourselves to welcome in greater balance and abundance on all levels in our lives.
